City saves two mature cottonwoods at Idlywood Park

In August 2017, two separate large tree limb failures occurred at Idylwood Park. After the limb failures from drought, a visual tree risk assessment was performed on all trees in high use park areas by a certified arborist on City staff. As a result of the tree risk assessment, thirty (30) large cottonwood trees were identified as needing to be removed.

? March 19, 2018, City staff removed fourteen (14) cottonwood trees.
? March 27, 2018, a formal appeal regarding the project was filed. The tree removal project was put on hold during the appeal process.
? June 1, 2018, the appeal was dismissed by the Hearing Examiner The project was postponed until after Labor Day because of the busy summer beach season.

The City has hired a contractor to remove the remaining fourteen (14) hazardous cottonwood trees. Two (2) of the hazardous will be pruned to reduce risk and will remain.The project is scheduled to resume on October 8, 2018. Restoration of the tree removal areas will occur November 2018 � January 2019.

A community volunteer replanting event will be coordinated by the City. Volunteers and City staff will plant trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and install woody mulch. Replanting quantities include 66 trees, 291 shrubs, and 96 groundcovers.

UPDATED: Council Committee notes - City website / Neighborhood Conversations

"Finance, Administration and Communication" Council meeting talking points: The City Website :   Phase One involved community outreach and is complete.  Phase Two is underway and involves building out the design.  90% of the design is done with 5,000 pages reduced to 1500 pages.  (This just gives you and idea how outdated this website is; many of us have been asking for a new website for almost a decade.)  In response to Council member Steve Fields' question about how many employees were involved in Phase Two, Communications Director Lisa Mayre said 50 staff representing all departments participated in the updates.  12- 15 "super users" from planning and land use played a major role.  Mr. Myers asked for Search engine improvements.  Apparently, we'll have them. The city and residents partner with PSE to reduce CO-2 emissions

Residents can enroll in PSE's Green Power program   and with an additional  $10 payment on their electrical  bill can reduce 12,420 pounds of CO-2 emissions annually to 231 pounds per year.    Redmond, WA  � The City of Redmond is partnering with Puget Sound Energy to purchase 100 percent of its electricity for government operations from dedicated, local, renewable energy resources.  Green Direct , PSE�s innovative renewable energy product for governments and commercial entities, consists of a combination of wind and solar.
